Are people expected to dress up for Skype interviews? I mean, what? I have one tomorrow. And it's just with a program that facilitates interning abroad (because I wanna go to Europe, dude, who cool would that be?) rather than an actual company, but it's still my first interview ever, so I am slightly nervous.

I feel like I should have a drink beforehand, but I also feel like I shouldn't because the last time I drank I ended up having a debate with someone over the merits of peeled grapes vs unpeeled grapes. (I think unpeeled grapes > peeled grapes because grapes are supposed to be hard and crunchy rather than soft and smushy. This is NOT, for the record, anything like how dicks are better hard than soft, because no dick ought to be crunchy, or so I was reminded.)

Uhm, there was a point to this entry. OH. CHICAGO CON. Is in three weeks, omg. A few of you may care -- I bought tickets yesterday! \o/ Right now ~the plan~ is to leave Thursday, swing by vichan's place for the night and have an SPN viewing party, and then make it up to Chicago Friday around noon. Hopefully this is acceptable? What's going on Friday?

Speaking of ~THE PLAN~, omg BSG, WHY DID YOU LEAVE ME? You were my favorite show ever. D: I love this movie -- I use the term "movie" loosely -- SO HARD. If it weren't for my bleeding heart obsession with Dean/Castiel, no other show would be able to turn me into such a gleeful but emotionally messy MESS like this show did. And ~The Plan~ kind of did it all over again. :D and D: EVERYONE PLEASE BUY THIS MOVIE EVEN IF YOU'VE ALREADY DOWNLOADED IT SO THEY'LL MAKE ANOTHER ONE. POSSIBLY WITH JENSEN AS DANIEL. *POINTS TO ICON*

Re: the Skype interview. If you would dress up for the in-person interview, then you would dress up for the Skype interview. The choice of attire is not really based on location but on the image you are trying to project whether you are physically on site or not. Does that make sense?

I suspect they're less formal than what a real company would expect, but I'm not sure so probably better to risk being over-dressed than under-dressed. Thanks for the tip. ♥

Just remember, if you decide not to wear pants cause it's out of frame, it's probably a bad idea to get up in the middle for bathroom/snack/reaching for something/various emergencies.
Which begs the question, would the above situation be better if pants were intentionally not worn? Or if you just forgot to put them on that morning?

I think it would be better if I left them off intentionally! If I simply forgot, and then became extremely embarrassed, whoever is interviewing me may wonder if they caught me with someone under my desk. On the other hand, maybe the interviewer is a hot guy who wouldn't mind that image.. Hmm.

I think you are supposed to dress up for Skype interviews. It all feels very sci fi though, doesn't it? Pretend you're a high powered business attorney having a video meeting with the other Three Lawyers of the Apocolypse.

If you have a drink, only one. Peeled grapes is a very serious subject.

I'm living in Japan at the moment and they always peel their grapes before eating them. Its unnatural. They're naked without their skin! They look on in horror as I pop them (The Japanese, not the grapes). I think they're afraid of the pesticides?

Will probably do without the drink. And just eat a lot of unpeeled grapes instead. Hmm, if they really do grow them with a lot of pesticides over there, though, perhaps you should be more careful.

Dress up, it shows you want the job. Doesn't matter if they wear t-shirt and jeans or not. Just don't wear heels because you might trip over a cable or something and send the laptop/computer flying across the room. :P

Business casual ought to cover it. Nice blouse or a collared shirt or something of the like.

I AM SO EXCITED FOR SPN VIEWING PARTY WITH YOU. \o/ (Oh, and if you plan on getting to Chi-town by noon, though, you may have to leave at about 5:30ish. There's a chance you'll get caught in the early-morning rush hour going out of C-town. You'll be going the opposite way of most of the rush, but it's sometimes still slightly heavy.)

I would think dressing up would be good, since it is an interview and from what I've learned is that, unless it's a profession where you're going to show what you do physically (like with me), then dressing up will show that you're professional and taking it seriously. Anyway, good luck bb! :D

Never done a Skype interview before. I feel like I'm beginning to live in the stone age. I don't think I've ever even had to do a phone interview.

And unpeeled grapes TOTALLY pwn peeled grapes. Where's the fun in a peeled grape? Nowhere, that's where. And no, you're right, no dick should be crunchy, unless it's made out of a Crunch bar. In that case, crunch away.

And ughhhhh, have fun at Chicago Con! Are you going to the LA con in March? I'm buying my ticket within the next couple days, I'm so excited! I have my whole financial plan for it worked out and everything muahaha. Flight from Hawaii + hotel = about $900-$1000, which I can essentially save in a few weeks if I play my cards right. But I'm hoping people I know from LJ will be there, so I feel a little less alone, it being my first con at all. Whoop!
