Going back to the show's roots was nice and nostalgic, to be sure, but, like most people have said, not as exciting as what we've been getting lately. Still, it had its highlights.

I like this "fresh start" idea, and how Dean emphasizes that THEY need training wheels, as a team. The apocalypse tore them apart, so I can see why he needs to go back to the way things were before, when he and Sam were good together, and find their footing there. That way when they go back to the apocalypse (which will still be there when they get back, lol Ilu Dean), they'll have something of a foundation, at least, on which to build things differently.


HAND!PORN. It's good to see Sam have a badge again. And look, he even knows how to hold it right side up. \O/ This scene makes me miss Cas, though, not gonna lie.


Dean gets bored during the hunt and runs his tongue along the inside of his lip while imagining doing that to Cas, y/y? XD


You know what I really, really love? That muscle in Dean's jaw that twitches during his "I swear I didn't just imagine Cas naked on this table" face. And Sammy's smile! ♥


The engine number was NOT too long to memorize, Dean. :P But hey, I'm not gonna complain about more Dean-on-his-back time than is strictly necessary. Especially when there is surprise!orgasm!face.


Sam wondering why Dean is enjoying bottoming for the car so much. And then being told to not look at her. Possessive much, Dean? XD

Maybe I'm just reading too much into it.

Okay, if we thought Kripke made it sound like Dean and Cas were dating with the whole "we're done" thing, lol, that was nothing compared to the sort of language they use here. "This isn't gonna work. Us. You, me, together." Hahahha I don't even ship Sam/Dean, but yeah, I can definitely see it.

Anyway, Dean's "what do you want me to do?" is amazing. Meeting Sam halfway, but it's also a sign of just how desperately he needs to know the answer to that. I'm sure he blames himself, to some extent, for not doing things right and letting Sam fall so far, which is probably part of the reason he wanted to go back to the MotW type cases, i.e. a time when he felt like he was doing things right by Sam? He was too terrified of throwing themselves back into the apocalypse because he didn't know what to do differently this time, I think.


The necessity of this conversation can not be overstated. Everything Sam says about how they were before and needing Dean to let him grow up is so true, and I love that he's not blaming Dean here, but at the same time he's gotta get those feelings out. YES. Gold. I also love that the phone call vindicated him at the perfect time.


Am I the only one who saw this scene and just thought, "Cas totally got into Dean's personal space more"? XD Anyway, I love that Dean asked Sam what he wanted to do instead of just deciding for himself and dragging Sam along. Already working on it! \o/


Most attractive Jared face ever, amirite? :P But, uh, I want to know what made him decide to go digging through these guys' stomachs in the first place. I mean, that's not like, default protocol, is it? You don't understand something, so naturally you go digging through someone's stomach for the answer? He didn't even look like he expected to find the seeds there! lololol wtf, show.

You know, watching this conversation last night for the first time, I was really not feeling it. It just seemed forced and clunky, IDK, but I like it better today (except for Sam's speech about grabbing things and kicking ass and going down fighting, still some DNW there). I'm still not sure if Dean giving in to Sam is because he actually feels Sam is right or because he knows this is the only way to keep Sam close, but it's a step in the right direction either way, I think. Even his body language is submissive throughout this whole scene, lol.


Also, it's officially canon that Sam knows Dean broke the first seal. I remember making a post wondering if that had been addressed, and now it finally has, but I can't help but wish they hadn't just retconned the whole Sam-finding-out thing. That must have been a really pivotal moment! Meh.

Whatever. LETTING SAM DRIVE IS SO DEAR. But really, Dean just wants to sit where Cas sat for awhile and get some rest since he knows he won't once he sees Cas again, right? I mean, look at that little smirk of anticipation. XD


IN CONCLUSION: I LOVED CAS IN THIS EPISODE, DIDN'T YOU? \O/

All I'm gonna say on the promo is this: When I first watched it, I thought it was all from one episode and had a MAJOR case of WTF going on, lololol. *facepalm*

I had a lot of problems with the episode which, if it had been written better, might not exist. Because they did need to talk and I do feel Dean is saying and doing whatever he can to keep Sam close. But what is your take on Sam's comment to Dean about Ruby? Because I would love to hear your interpretation.

I thought Sam's comment about Ruby was very honest. Sure, it stings, and maybe it even sounds like he's blaming Dean, but he said he wasn't, and I'm inclined to believe him. Really, I think they tried to handle this in a way that shied away from any kind of blame-laying as much as possible and just put the facts and reasons on the table. They didn't overdo the "misunderstood puppy" thing and all is not forgiven, this is just the way things were and Dean really did need to know that.

I THINK SO. the week before last I thought it was where they had filmed Dean fixing Castiel's tie before they went to talk to the sheriff dude. but that really looks like it too. (and I noticed at one point that Dean had a super huge/black bruise on one of his fingers that i remember seeing at Vancon on Jensen so maybe this scene fits the timeline better.)

Hahaha I also stared at the cop station for a long time (it had nothing to do with wanting to watch Dean fix Castiel's tie two million times, really) trying to figure out if that was it, but then I thought it probably wasn't.

i LOVED Cas in this ep 8D he was all stealth and ninja. following after Dean, hiding in bushes, calling Dean on the phone like he's miles away but actually standing on the other side of the road (just out of sight, of course)
oh, oh, then he used his powers to hold Dean and Sam up against those trees (cause, srsly, they were unconscious, they couldn't be standing on their own) then he helped them get free at the last second to save teh day.

Oh, dude. hmm. I hadn't thought about that, but now that you mention it.. I can see it. On the other hand, he seems to be blaming Sam more than himself in general this season. "You chose a demon over your own brother, and look what happened," etc. If he really meant himself, I think he would make that a lot more clear to Bobby. On the other OTHER hand, that whole bit did seem a little bit off, maybe whatever he'd said before had already made it clear that it was himself he was blaming, so when Sam asked, he just avoided giving a straight answer (so Cas-like, heee) and said, "pretend or don't pretend" to brush the whole thing off? That would also make sense to me, hmm. I am inconclusive!

I don't consider it bad, I also didn't think it was gonna be bad because of Paris Hilton, but after four great episodes (and especially the last two being amazing, really amazing), I had too high expectations, I guess.
All in all, it was a nice episode, and I'm glad that it was mostly angst-free and had a good ending, with Dean letting Sam drive.

But seriously, I missed Castiel so much, the whole episode I was waiting for them to at least mention him.

Yeah, I went into this episode knowing that Cas wasn't gonna be in it at all and that it was a lighter, more lulzy episode, so I guess I didn't have the same expectations that you did. I wasn't on board with some of the dialogue, but ehhh, it was alright.

I also wish they could've at least mentioned him, but I'm trying very hard not to be too entitled, hahaha. The last few episodes were enough to tide me over for awhile.

This is great. And I'll try to take your Sam interpretation into account when I rewatch, because I feel a bit of it was actually a bit clunky, and that contributed to the ep rubbing me the wrong way. I kind of wish Dean could be more articulate about what he needs from Sam, in turn, because without it, it feels very demanding of Sam to force the issue, even though there's no other way to say what happened. (Aside from the fact I think Sam has been reading heavy-meta or my journal because what he said sounds SO much like what we've been arguing about why the boys can't go back, blah blah, build something better, codependance, growing up, blah blah...) I feel like this ep glossed over stuff. Boo.

Paris Hilton made the ep for me. I usually like the pagan god eps (except Samhain) because I'm a witchy and I like the shout out to our crazeh godz.

And I also was pretty sure Dean was talking to Cas and not Bobby, which would make "Well, we know whose fault that is" mean probably "Well, it's OUR damn fault" rather than "It's ALL SAM'S FAULT." Which I feel is OOC given how they've played it so far this season. Maybe Dean is just backed up and cranky from being angel-transported all around last episode. Sam should demand to know who Dean is talking to on the phone all the time. For great lulz.

It definitely felt like a Season 2, ep. Someone needs to go through the ep and make connections to the S1+2 episodes they're calling back to.

Oh, I definitely feel a lot of the dialogue was clunky too, or at least, just not quite right. Maybe even too cheesy. But you're right, maybe that's what was missing, a little bit of seeing what's going on with Dean. To be fair, he did have his say in Sympathy for the Devil, though, and I'm not sure he's at a hugely different place right now, apart from being convinced that he needs to keep Sam close?

Paris was surprisingly awesome, yes. \o/

Someone else pointed out that he could've been talking about Zachariah and the other angels, and I think I like this theory best. Hahha Sam should totally steal his phone at some point and find out just who he's been talking to. :))

This episode really didn't do it for me, but I personally think that's because Cas wasn't in it. I've become so dependent on him showing up in the episodes that when he doesn't, I kind of go meh. But I still love the show, and the episode wasn't all that bad, it just felt...I don't know, forced?

In all actuality, when Dean said that line about starting the apocalypse, all I could think was that he was blaming Zach and his band of asshole angels. My mind didn't even register that he might be blaming Sammy or himself. Does that make me an optimist?

I think Dean has the memory of the future still fresh in his mind (though they did say they've been searching for the Colt for three weeks). Anything that momentous would take a firm hold, and Dean really doesn't want his Sammy to say yes to the Devil. So, whatever Dean can do to stop that from happening will probably end up conflicting with how much he has grown in independence. It's a vicious cycle, really.

THE CAS IN THIS EPISODE HAD ME SQUEEING. THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING ME TO REVISIT ALL THE WONDER THAT WAS CASTIEL.

Yeah, I said this too, last night. Usually I can't sleep until I've reviewed in capslock and a hundred caps, but after I saw this episode I was all, "..Yeah, sleep first, I'll review tomorrow." I know what you mean about it feeling forced, I thought the same thing, especially in regards to some of the dialogue.

Now that I've seen some differing opinions, I'm much less convinced that he was blaming Sam, especially since he said "pretend or don't pretend" and just brushed it off. Love the blaming Zachariah theory, I hope it gets addressed later!

Aww, I hope it doesn't end up conflicting that much with his independence! Especially since Sam wants him to back off and let him grow up -- that should be equally good for Dean.

But it was good to see that again...just the two of them working a case again...it felt good. :) But I did miss a little bit of Cas. :)(Though I'm kind of upset that Dean didn't tell Sam yet about him being Lucifer in the future...) Yeah, I agree it was good to see some old fashioned Sam'n'Dean again, and to be honest, there was really not much of a place for Cas in this episode. I'm alright with it, only four more no-Cas episodes to go!

Anyways, I WOULD LIKE SOME LAZY MORNING!FIC PLS. Maybe some accidental cuddling, like they fall asleep on their own side if the bed (like the non-cuddly macho men Dean wants to be) but wind up all wrapped round each other by the time they wake up.

In other news: I LOVE HOW MANY STUPID FACES THE BOYS MADE THIS WEEK. And OMG how did you manage to cap so many priceless moments like Ghandi sticking it to Sam and Sam's wrestling match and Dean's pirate impression (I see he's been working on that one).

All while giving the Dean&Sam relationship lots of love (and they so SO married, OMG. These are the kinds of episodes where I wonder why I don't ship it). <3

I actually had some meta thoughts on how Dean interacts with Sam and people-not-Sam and how Sam, Bobby, and Castiel have all been able to tell Dean "you are being a jerk, stop it" and that Dean's relationship issues with Castiel are going to be similar to the ones he has with Sam -- Dean railroads and mocks Castiel the way he mocks Sam -- but also different, because it doesn't have that over-protective big brother aspect. But Dean finds it difficult to be honest with *anybody*, not just Sam.

These are the kinds of episodes where I wonder why I don't ship it

Hahha you know, I also wonder this sometimes. But if three years of epic Sam'n'Dean couldn't get me to ship them romantically, there's really no chance now that Cas is around. Of course I'll always love Sam'n'Dean since they're the reason I watched seasons 1-3, but I guess I always just thought they were already perfect on screen and never felt there were any gaps that needed to be filled with fic.

Hmm, for awhile I also wondered if Dean would start going all codependent on Cas, too, and maybe the protectiveness wasn't there before, but now that he's seen what Castiel might become if he doesn't watch out for him? I can sort of see Dean getting more protective. Especially since Castiel is so clearly lost without the assurance that God is still out there. I want them to be closer, obviously, but I really, really hope it happens healthily.
