Apr. 24th, 2009 07:27 pmI.. look, here's the deal. You guys know I'm not a harsher of squees, particularly where it concerns Misha, but. Let me just take a moment now to implore anyone who reads this to think about how Misha would feel if everyone, particularly Jensen and Jared, his new coworkers who he's managed to strike up a comfortable and friendly (and casually physical) relationship with, found out very personal information about him on the internet, or at a con. They're open-minded boys, to be sure, but I highly doubt Misha would want them to know certain things about him that are becoming very alarmingly well-known online.
And yes, everyone's posting info like this under lock, but that's just it. Everyone's doing it (okay, not literally), and sooner or later some crazy fan who loved it when Misha was asked about Walter is going to bring this up at a convention, it's fucking inevitable.
Seriously, please. Please. I love Misha just as much as the next fan, and I love knowing all the little details about him too, but he is not our monkey. If Misha's never breathed a word about so much as even having a wife outside of his one little interview two years ago when nobody cared, there's probably a good reason for that.
Also, school really IS sort of killing me, almost literally, so hiatus until next Wednesday. D: I love you all. (Uhm, do let me know if anything happens, though, please! ♥)
ETA: For the record, I am less worried about this getting out at a con than I am about Jensen, Jared, and Misha's other friends/coworkers hearing about it through the grapevine when he doesn't want them to. Things could get pretty fucking awkward for him, especially with the boys, and it.. scares me, is all. The personal ramifications for him, and also someone mentioned it might hurt his career, too? I don't know how that works, but the possibility is dismaying, especially considering how gracious he's always been to us.

Date: 2009-04-24 11:45 pm (UTC)Im keeping fingers crossed that no fan even thinks about asking about this, as I would like the boys to actually show up at LA con next year, otherwise I'm flying halfway across the world for nothing :D
also, LOVE the tag

Date: 2009-04-25 12:26 am (UTC)And oh god, I cringe just thinking about someone asking Misha something as personal as what is apparently going around, even if I don't know what it is. I want to go around at the cons and casually
dispose ofremove the crazies before Misha's panel. It's embarrassing when crazy fans ask the actors questions a la Walter. I get mortified any time something like this happens.(Also? I didn't know Misha was married! And that's all I'll say about that. :))
That sucks about school killing you. It should be nicer to you. After all, you're gracing school with your presence. (Of course we'd let you know! What kind of obsessive fangirls do you think we are? ;))

Date: 2009-04-25 01:13 am (UTC)Oh, and that someone should ask him if he ever met Rahm in the White House. But I'm sure everyone is aware of that by now, right? RIGHT?
Here take this (http://fandomatemylife.livejournal.com/25230.html) with you to keep you warm over hiatus. It's utterly shameless self-indulgence and not one of the fifty billion (approx.) other things I should be writing right now but it is Dean/Castiel pr0ns.

Date: 2009-04-25 01:55 am (UTC)I wish people would just be nice. And have tact. Mostly, I wish they'd have tact. Maybe we need con How to Have Tact mandatory classes before you're allowed to go.

Date: 2009-04-25 02:38 am (UTC)Then someone asked on imdb a few days back, and I wanted to cry. There's a difference between say, finding out about his childhood, his brother's name, about Jared's dogs, or whatever, and this. That shit is deeply personal, and I really am scared that someone is gonna ask him about it. Stupid fandom.
Enjoy your hiatus! Well, try to. School sucks. School sucks balls.

Date: 2009-04-25 02:54 am (UTC)I understand your fears, and I do know what you're talking about, and I often get carried away myself. Because of that, I don't like to squelch the squee either. I think as with many things, it's a matter of balance. A little over-the-top squee for a few days is pretty hard to clamp down upon. There's just a ripple effect of when people do or do not hear the gossip/info, and curiosity + crushing does nutty things. But hopefully perspective will come, and while the info might bleed into some fic ideas or aspects of fandom, it will cease to be mentioned, or delved into. And those who do harp on it will stand out as the minority.
Cons are a different story, because anyone can go to a con. But there's an easy way to at least avoid public humiliation for fandom as a whole, and that would be question screening. I dislike question screening, though. At Comicon (where they have it) vs. the LA con (where they don't), it doesn't even seem to make a difference. I've been at cons with obnoxious attendees, and while I think a roomful of excited women can take down just about anyone and anything, I would not want us to. We're too unpredictable to be censoring each other. If Misha understands fandom, and I think he does, he has to know there are extremes out there. He wouldn't judge us all by one bad experience, unless we reacted in a way that seemed to support that bad experience. In the end, I agree with those above, because Misha can defend himself, and fandom can defend itself.
It just makes me sad that EVERYONE seems to be talking about the crazy people in fandom, and making distinctions of what is crazy and what is not, mostly based on the same stories about a handful of creepy events at cons. And sadly those stories are getting around as quickly as anything. I absolutely appreciate your call for respect; it just might be something that's too difficult to ACTUALLY control without dampening the fandom, even if it hurts it.
The worst thing? I'm actually more worried about the new press coverage I've seen. EW may or may not have screwed the show over, depending on how you read the situation. I didn't think so, until Jensen mentioned it in another interview. And the Channel 10 interview from the other day, as wonderful as it was, actually frightened me. Because while someone in fandom found Misha's poetry and embarrassed him with it and made him read it aloud at a con, when it was over, it was over. But the news anchors asked him about 'Baby Pants' because fans found it first. So, the implication of that scares me more than any one fan.
And if I had tact, I probably wouldn't be sending this ;/ But pretend that I do! No need to reply.
May your schoolwork be less head-hurty than all of this! *sends anti-procrastination pixie dust*

Date: 2009-04-25 08:25 am (UTC)This obviously isn't something any news anchor would bring up since it's deeply personal and they have to at least attempt to be professional, but I agree with you that the trend is scary as hell.
Thanks, love. ♥

Date: 2009-04-25 03:41 am (UTC)Again, I am unsure of what is being spread around, but common courtesy seems to be lost on the crazies (and good chunks of our fandom). I thank you for posting something about respect, and I wish people would understand that though actors make more money, they are still people and deserve our respect. And the Supernatural boys give us great respect already, and Misha just gives us balls of it, so it seems both disrespectful and downright barbaric to throw that offering back in their faces (though this is about Misha, I think it applies to Jensen and Jared as well).
Again, have no idea what's going on, and I hope school doesn't kill you too much. Luckily, I am done tomorrow. Good luck, bb, and see you next week!

Date: 2009-04-25 07:57 am (UTC)Whose offhand comment started it? I don't want to screen all of it because some people are making very good points, if anyone's reading through the replies..

Date: 2009-04-25 05:58 am (UTC)I see absolutely no harm in squeeing about this information pertaining to Misha and his wife in your own personal journal - particularly if you've got proof, and the entry itself is under lock and key. I trust my flist; I know for a fact that they would NEVER ask a question such as this at a convention, because that's really over-stepping some boundaries.
In short: If you trust your flist, completely, then by all means - squee until your heart's content in your own, personal journals. But don't let it leave them. Also, for the love of Misha, DON'T POST THIS INFORMATION IN ANY ONLINE COMMUNITIES.
ETA: Oh, and one more thing - if they didn't want this book tied back to them, his wife would've used a pseudonym in place of her own name, much like the woman Chopin was dating did.

Date: 2009-04-25 07:31 am (UTC)I mean it - I genuinely get really really freaked when I see people posting the same bit of very *private* info about MC or when a person claims that JA's girlfriend cheated on him and deserved to die. Or some such nonsense.
It is very sad because 90% of fandom does NOT suffer from an over blown sense of entitlement. Unfortunately the 10% that does is very loud and gives the rest of fandom a very bad name.

Date: 2009-04-25 08:20 am (UTC)It terrifies me to think that word of this will get to the boys and Misha's other friends/coworkers, even if no one says anything at a con, and it'll make things uncomfortable as shit for him. Gah.
And sorry, but screening your comment, I don't want people taking a hint and visiting those specific places you mentioned in search of the dirt, but thank you. ♥

Date: 2009-04-25 09:26 am (UTC)Seeing how Misha seems to be, that depending on the person, co-worker, whatever...he'd be honest or tell them to mind their own business. Which I know the fans end up in the latter category and should be.
I don't know, when someone says to me, can I ask you something and I figure it's of a personal nature, I say, sure, but I might not give you an answer. And depending on how close I was to them depends on the answer they'd get.
But you know, like I said it could just be my perspective and background, but when I heard I was like, oh...interesting...and so what? And then I went back to squeeing for whatever is going on, cons or epic episodes.
I hope I made some sort of sense!

Date: 2009-04-25 06:01 pm (UTC)Nobody has gone around communities talking about this have they?! Ugh. Because i've only seen two people on my flist even mention it in passing in locked posts.

Date: 2009-04-25 07:19 pm (UTC)I heard about what your referring to and all I can say is I feel the same way. It should be Misha's choice to tell people.
