Truth of the matter is, I'm not more than mildly annoyed about Delicious's apparently imminent demise. All of the bookmarks I care about are saved elsewhere as well. Delicious is mostly for you guys, I only really started using it 'cause my hundreds and hundreds of Dean/Castiel recs wouldn't fit on the rec list post.

I took a quick look at LJ stats and apparently that post gets a few hundred hits per day, but I doubt my Delicious page gets nearly as much action? Is there a way to find out? Anyway, I thought, hey, I might as well import everything into Google bookmarks because it seems easy enough, but it turns out all the tags and descriptions get stripped off, that way. D:

So, what I wanna know is if it's worth going through the trouble of re-adding tags/descriptions to everything, or shelling out the $7 (probably soon to be $8) to get a Pinboard account. (Can anyone confirm tags and descriptions get preserved in a Delicious --> Pinboard importation?) How many of you would actually be disappointed if my public bookmarks disappeared? The LJ rec list will stay either way, of course.

Apparently http://www.diigo.com/ can import from delicious and is free ^^, so I'm giving them a test run - they're currently processing my attempted import, I'll let you know how it goes :).

I've seen that one mentioned a lot but haven't checked it out yet. Let me know how easy it is to maintain too? i.e. how convenient is it to save and tag new bookmarks? Thanks, bb. ♥

I've just shuffled my bookmarks over to Diigo, which is looking pretty good so far, but they'll have to process the bookmarks I'm importing (about 86, which doesn't seem like many.)

Diigo also lets you keep the tags, which is nice.

I'm transferring to diigo too - it seems to function basically exactly the same as delicious.

There's an interesting discussion going on over here (http://community.livejournal.com/deliciouslymad/18362.html) about a possible website being created that is just for fanmade works if you're interested in looking it over!

I've been waiting all day for my import to process. I'm hoping that it's just because of the higher than normal traffic due to the delicious news and not indicative of future service levels.

I HATE LIFE RIGHT NOW. WHY DOES EVERYTHING CRASH AND BURN BEFORE CHRISTMAS, HUH? HUH?!

GAH. DIAF YAHOO.

*sigh* I am going through all of my bookmarks, one by one, and saving them into word documents. There are over 1000. And that's only because when my old computer died, it ate most of my H/D recs. I created a journal to save them all on. Will compile over Christmas and then link people to it if they want. I'm going to have Dean/Cas recs (though there are few, haha) so if you want me to, I can post some of your stuff there with tags? I'm going to have to tag everything else anyway. *HEADDESK*

I know that a few of the alternative bookmarking sites actually went down last night, so my guess would be that they've been thrashed with traffic.

I bet the only people going FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF more than us are the alternative bookmarking sites suddenly waking up to 100000000% higher traffic than usual!

You mean you're going to save the bookmark links or you're going to save the actual fics?

The more I think about it, the more I kind of want to get the Pinboard archival account for $25. SAVED FICS which are searchable, and I'll still have them even after they get locked/deleted, as so many fics often do.

I don't actually have a profound bond with your bookmarks, but I enjoy the idea of having a profound bond with bookmarks. Like that I don't just use them for my own enjoyment, but truly respect them for their individual specialness and like buy them dinner first or something.

It is possible that I need more sleep.

Aww, thanks for the comment, bb. ♥ I guess since I already did put all that effort into bookmarking/tagging everything, it would be kind of a shame to lose it all now. If people actually use it I'd be happy to put a bit of effort into moving it.

There's also apparently XMarks (http://www.xmarks.com/), which imports from Deliscious. ([livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's got some discussion (http://cleolinda.livejournal.com/937017.html) going on about this too and is worth a look, in case anything comes up.)

You've done a lot of work. It'd be a shame to see it get lost. OTOH you already gave us all this free stuff so I feel its unfaire it being a resource that you pay for. I am already so grateful for the list you wouldn't believe it and . Also in my experience tying $ to a thing makes it *more* unstable, not less. Its the stuff I have to pay for that I discontinue a few years down the line, whereas my Tribe.net account *won't die*. Tying free stuff to your wallet kills it faster, imo. Let diilgo be slow, when I'm looking for older discontinued recs I can suffer some patience. Sorry about typos - I'm typing on a 4 inch keyboard.

Apparently, Yahoo! is trying to unload delicious on someone else, which may or may not mean a fee to use it. So you might not want to just the gun shelling out money. BUT-- the cost of pinboard goes up as the number of users does too; I signed up yesterday for, um $8.31, and now its up to $8.73. I can confirm that tags and descriptions appear preserved.

That one's being sold, right? I guess if there are more stable options I'd prefer those rather than signing up for something right as it's switching management, but thanks for the links!

Aww, I'm glad you enjoy the rec list! But yes, that was my thought too, I've already put in the effort so it would be kind of a shame to lose it.

I've had the opposite experience with regards to stuff I pay for, but then again, I don't pay for too many things. LJ is one of the major exceptions, and I've been using it since 2003.

So actually I ended up getting a Pinboard archival account for $25 because I thought -- HEY I WILL HAVE ARCHIVES OF ALL THE DEAN/CASTIEL FIC I EVER LIKED (been burned so many times by authors deleting/locking their fic) -- but it turns out half the pages I've tried to archive are just the adult content notice. *facepalm* I mentioned it on the dev group and I'm waiting to see if they'll come up with a solution to it. If not, I probably won't be using the account much, at least while Delicious is still up and free of charge.

I'm sorry, but I have no idea because I don't use any of these types of sites. I just thought I'd spread the links around because the topic came up on two of the people on my flist in quick succession. I hope you find a good alternative to Delicious - I really like your bookmarks - so good luck!
