Remember that thing from a few months ago where Sonoma County separated an elderly gay couple while one of them was in the hospital and then sold their home?

Well, here's a new headline: Sonoma County Defendants to Pay Clay Greene over $650,000 to Settle Case in Which County Forcefully Separated Greene from his Partner of 20 Years

Or, in other words: \O/\O/\O/

Shit like this makes me SO HAPPY.

And shit like Inception makes me SO CONFUSED. Did Cobb and Mal grow old together for those 50 years or did they kill themselves on that train track while they were still young? FFFFFFFFF I need to go and read some reviews and explanations, IDEK, but I am going to be thinking about this forever. T_T

In other news, I have a respectable tan.

Was my first thought too!!! :) I thought maybe it was part of the dream of him seeing her as he always wanted to remember her, and he planted this idea in her head, so it would have been in a dream, that was seperate from limbo so perhaps in the dreams she remembered herself as young, perhaps :)

It almost makes sense. Almost. Like the movie. fffff.

RIGHT? Finally someone gets a bit of what they deserve.

So, they were in limbo for 50 years and had time to grow old, but since they were in limbo they didn't actually grow old? Or something?

IDK, man, and I don't even want to begin to figure out how the ending came about.

Hahha I should put together like, a timeline of photos showing my progressive tanning. XD

I concur with this interpretation. They grew old in the dream, but since it's a dream, it can be perceived as however they wanted it. So, I think in many of the flashbacks, living Cobb saw her as young. It wasn't until he had to give up his little piece of her that he had to remind her (and thus, really, himself) that they had grown old together because in a sense they had, having spent so much time in that dream world. And because they had grown old together, he had fulfilled his promise to her AND he had gotten a lifetime with her and could thus, finally, move on.

Every once in awhile, it seems the Justice system doles out true justice. How heartbreaking that they *poofed* this elderly gentleman from his longtime love just like Kara was *poofed* away from Lee in the BSg finale. Of course, RL is the real tragedy. The callousness of these bureaucrats when the couple had all their legal paperwork in order must have felt like a walking nightmare. If there's a heaven where we are reunited with our beloved ones, then I hope they find each other there.

Cobb said something about "Old Souls" being thrown back into youth (his words, not mine). So, I imagine that they didn't literally grow old together, just their souls did... If that makes any sense. URGH, IDEK. D:

Date: 2010-07-30 12:53 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tracy.livejournal.com
That also makes sense. Maybe while they were growing old they perceived it as such, but once Cobb figured out it wasn't real he thinks of them as being in their young forms?

Unfortunately, I see this too often. I work at a hospital and you would think in 2010, this shit doesn't exit, but it does. Not only with same sex, but there is still racial issues. Descrimination-hatred is as old as the bible and will exist as long as humans exist. However, if each of us stands up, it will make a difference for people such as Mr. Greene. My heart goes out to him...the time together with his loved one can not be bought back with $650,000. Hopefully this will protect the next couple there...hope.

Yay for justice and yay for tans!

As for Inception! Wasn't it awesome??? Hahaha. From what I gathered, they grew old together in dream world. Remember how time moves faster down there? But in order to get back to the real world, in effect to wake up, Dom planted the seed that their world wasn't real (which it wasn't) and they killed themselves on the train track so they could wake up.

However, we don't REALLY know if Dom was in dream land or the real world because as the top was wavering the movie cut to credits. It's my firm belief the top would have stopped spinning.

Date: 2010-07-30 12:55 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tracy.livejournal.com
Actually I've come to think it wouldn't have stopped spinning, because if you look at his children, they hadn't aged a day since that memory was first made and they were even wearing the same clothes!

I saw it as them growing old together in Limbo, but Cobb wanted Mal to go home, so he convinced her that it was all a dream. But when they got back to "reality" she still thought that it was a dream, that they were still down a level, and they had to kill themselves in order to get back to the true reality.

So that makes three options for the end of the movie: He's in reality, he's in limbo, he's in a dreamstate and Mal actually woke up in reality.

I choose number two!

Date: 2010-07-30 01:00 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tracy.livejournal.com
I choose the last one, it's quite fitting! And the fact that his children were exactly as he left them suggests that, sort of.

This is fantastic news! I'm still sad it happened at all because the gentlemen took every step to ensure this wouldn't happen. Not only was their legal documentation ignored but their human rights were squashed as well. Sticking a man in a home against his will? What nonsense! The story pissed me off. The resolution makes me feel a bit vindicated for them. Now I'm just sad. Thanks for sharing. :)

I never saw Inception and have no wish to, so I can't help with that. Sorry. :)

That's awesome about the county being held responsible, but that isn't nearly enough $$ compared to what he deserves. Also it'd be nice if there were laws made to prevent this etc.

I think you do age in limbo, because of the part where Saito is old. But maybe it has to do with your perception. Or maybe it was just showing us visually their mental ages. I don't know now, dammit... lol

So I was thinking, because at the end the totem starts to wobble that it was real- right? But then my bf mentions- it doesn't matter if it stops spinning, it wasn't his totem so it wouldn't spin forever. It was just his subconscious doing what he thought it should, so if he thought it was real it would stop. Doesn't mean it is, even if it did. SO NOW I'm confused. Maybe Nolan wanted to see some beast fanfics hah

Date: 2010-07-30 01:02 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tracy.livejournal.com
Well, hopefully this case will be a lesson to other counties?

I'm inclined to agree that it has to do with perception. Saito grew old because he forgot the world wasn't real, whereas Cobb looked for him in limbo but didn't grow old because he knew it was limbo.

Well, also, he knows the feel of the totem, so his dream state could recreate it and have it fall over even if he's in a dream. The totem only tells you when you're in someone else's dream. So, still dreaming in the end, I think!

RE Inception

Like a few people have already commented, I think Cobb & Mal grew old together for those 50 years. The flashbacks/Mal always look young because that is how Cobb remembers her. Mal also doesn't remember this because she is a creation of his subconscious (and his guilt), so she only reflects his ability to deal with what happened.

Also, the ending? I think he's still in the dream. The totem wobbled, but like Soup pointed out that was probably Mal's totem, not his. What makes me think it was still a dream, though, is that his kids looked EXACTLY THE SAME every time he saw them, including the last time. Yes, they turned around at the end, but everything else was exactly the same.

From: [identity profile] tracy.livejournal.com
I've since thought about it some more and I agree with you 100%!

Anyway, even if it was his totem, he knows how it feels and thus if he was in his own dream, he could recreate it. The totem only tells you when you're in someone else's dream, right, that's the reason you can't let anyone else touch it.

lol do not get me started on this movie. seriously. after seeing it my brain kicked into highgear before i settled upon a theory that makes the most sense, is the most epic and can be explained the long way or in short.

the movie is about the mental gymanastics his brain had to go through to allow him to loose his mind ^_^ aka he's pretty much stuck in limbo/a a perma dream. the whole movie takes place in cobbs head!
