My belief is that Castiel was 1) tied to Dean's bed and 2) out of minutes due to excessive phone!sex. This is why they didn't call him. No one will convince me differently.

I cannot help but be amused by this crotch shot. Not only because it's a crotch shot, but because there is a hole in his crotch. SORRY I AM SO IMMATURE.

IDK, either way, this didn't work as it is right now, because surely they weren't expecting us to be shocked, either, that Lucifer is going after people close to the boys?

Yknow Dean had never eaten pie on screen before this episode. The whole series, it was kept from him by demons and other evil. My theory is, God isn't on flatbread.. he's in a pie. And now Dean finally gets his pie and next week.. well, you saw the preview, I'm sure. And we find out it was Death who practically baked them himself? :| suspicious!

Ah you know, also I was thinking the whole time how this episode was supposed to air a lot earlier. And you can really tell. This was Sammy before detoxing, and Dean before losing hope and praying, and we were supposed to have a Cas-break between two Cas-heavy episodes (both of which show him weakening a bit) Plus the hint at Death and then Famine comes to town, then presumably we'll get more Death action later...

idk, it's weird to me they reversed them but I guess they had to for valentines day. Still, imo would have been better to air 13 sooner and air 12 tonight, rather than mess up important mytharcy episodes! D: Do you think it matters or am I being crazy? :P

I really DON'T like it because it's like the writers can't keep their shit straight :P One episode Sam's all devil may care, I don't care about the human aspect I just get the job done and I don't want a family, the thought makes me sick... and then the next he's all wibbly and sensitive and ZOMGBOBBYISFAMILYANDILOVEHIMSOVERYMUCH xD It's like Sam is suffering from multiple personality disorder and there's no reason for it. I did hear a rumor (rumor because I don't check on these things, lol) that they got new writers though so... yeah, that could be why.

I knew going in that he wasn't going to be in the episode, so I wasn't as let down, I guess. Though I'm still sad because they could easily have fit him in and furthermore, they SHOULD have, since it was a Horseman ep. Oh well. I'm fairly certain he'll be in the rest of the episodes?

Not a bad episode, it's actually pretty good, but the lack of Cas just made it, lack, i guess. Seriously though, 6 weeks without Show and when the it back, we still don't get Cas?? (I thought Misha's contract was for 17 episodes? Seeing that he wasn't in 5, 7, 9, 11 and 12, why is he not in this one either?)

Bobby's very emotional pretty much the whole episode. He shown more emotions in this episode more then almost every other episode he's in combine. Wee who could blame him? His dead wife, the one he killed, back from the dead, just for him to do the killing all over again? I don't envy him, really.

And i agree with you, the scenes of Dean and Bobby killing the zombies are awesome. And Dean's "must be thursday" is also awesome :D.

The best thing about this is that they give us canon Sioux Falls for where Bobby lives, and also the name of Bobby's wife (Karen, tho I had really convinced myself she was a Julia).

I'm taking it that it's not that Dean's never been in love, just that he doesn't know how to handle being in love.

Note the contrast between Karen and Bobby and Dean's relationship with Cassie -

When Dean realised how much he cared about Cassie he IMMEDIATELY told her the truth about himself. Causing her first to be angry and kick him out and second to decide that kind of shit was too much for her too handle.

When Karen learnt the truth about hunting and demons and what Bobby did to her HER first instint was to LIE to Bobby, because unlike Dean she put Bobby's reaction before her own need to be honest.

So, IDK really what the show's doing there, but there's a clear contrast, sooo... maybe the idea is that Dean doesn't think about his partner's feelings enough? Or, at least, hasn't been in a relationship long enough to know of the complexities of looking out for another person in that way because he only has family relations as a model? Or... something... It doesn't seem a great idea to suggest lying and not communicating with the people you love is a good thing IMO, but everyone in this show IS supposed to be messed up I guess :p

Also, about the message to Bobby - I don't think Bobby's reaction was ever meant to be the focus. I think this was just a visual representation of HOW badass Lucifer can be - he's perfectly happy to risk destroying a whole town JUST to get a few words to someone who might not, in fact probably won't, even listen to them. No, it's not new, we already know Lucifer is a bastard, but having come from a show where important stuff like that was alomst NEVER shown but was instead left to be assumed (*cough*smallville*cough*) I'm always happy to see character/plot points being made clear onscreen :p

There's a key difference here, because Karen KNEW she only had a matter of days, so of course she'd try to make the best of them. If she was looking at spending the rest of her life with a hunter, she might have reconsidered.

But all the same, you're right that there's a fundamental contrast between how they approach things. Maybe it's not a message to US that lying is a good thing, but it made Dean realize how different he'd been with Cassie and second guess himself.

Yeah, I guess you're right, it was good to get a reminder that Lucifer and Death are still out there, and that they're after the boys. Especially since much of this season didn't have an apocalyptic feel to it.

Yes, THIIIS! Dean has fallen in love at least twice once. It frustrates me that everyone on the show seems to forget about this, because as crappy as Route 66 was, Dean was totally in love with Cassie! Show needs to ACKNOWLEDGE! (and he's obviously in love with someone else now, lalala, but I'm not expecting Dean to acknowledge that one in public).

I really didn't like the Cas-lessness in this episode D: It's kinda hard to feel any sort of suspense for characters trapped in the closet (*snicker* I'm twelve) when you know that they could just CALL THEIR ANGEL at any time and he could bamf them out. I wish the writers knew how to use Castiel a little bit better.

The story was okay, despite the lack of Cas (they really should have explained his absence when Sam said he'd need help.) What made it special were the loving shots of Dean. There were quite a few shots of Dean that didn't do anything but highlight how gorgeous he is. For example, when he was leaning against the car.

Ah, it's good to see your picspams again, even though they were lacking of the Cas!pics. But! I am assuming (which is never a good thing with SPN) that we'll be getting a lot of Cas time in the near future.

Also, the one line where they are talking to Digger and he says, "Who died and made you Queen?" all I could think was wait, isn't "Who died and made you King?" why would they change that? And then I just giggled because my mind went elsewhere...

I also hate to admit that whenever the boys need help all I want them to do is speed dial Cas and have him be all BAMF all over the screen. It disappoints me when they don't. And I totally thought Death's message would be about Cas, because I'm that horrible. And this entire comment I have written for you was done while on very good cold drugs so my apologies if it makes little sense.

There is also the thought that Cas is in Dean's heaven. Of course Cas is in Dean's heaven. I'm going back to sleep now.
